For no discernible reason, I was just sitting here, drinking my ritual pre-gym huge glass of skim milk, at my desk, in front of my computer, when I felt a sudden nostalgic desire to play Pokemon Gold.
For no discernible reason, this also made me very sad.
Probably because I remember how back in the day, in Grade 6 or whatever it was, my life was primarily divided between Pokemon Gold, school, and homework. The latter two didn't concern me in the slightest, and it was all fun and easy. School was basically just friends and games, with a few jerks. Homework was learning my times tables. Pokemon was Pokemon (and still is Pokemon) i.e. awesome.
School has now been replaced by work, where I have a lot of friends, but you also run into quite a number of jerks, or people you'd rather not spend hours and hours and hours (and hours) with.
Homework is now Taxation Law. Income tax, CGT, FBT, T.T. I don't get it. At school, up until about Year 10, I just got things.
And Pokemon Gold. I've sort of upgraded to HeartGold. I like what they've done with those games. They're sort of more or less the same, just kind of spruced up.
Problem is, I can't even find the stupid DS right now.
Or it might be the music.

Deloittering about the city.
So I took an action-packed journey out to the city last night to have dinner with a few Deloitte friends.
And it was action-packed. Some guy got sick on the train, so we had to stop for about fifteen minutes. Pretty full-on stuff. Had to call an ambulance for him. Felt pretty bad for him, then felt kind of guilty because I started being slightly concerned about being late, then finally settled for feeling bad about both. Making it doubly bad. Or bad squared.
Anyway, I hope he's alright.
Dinner was good. Wish there could've been a few more people there. Not for the sake of having more people, but just because there were people that I wanted to catch up with that weren't there.
Not that I didn't want to catch up with the people that were there. And great people they were. And probably still are. In fact, we had such a good time, that three hours flew by like...a spaceship. On high speed. Or something.
Getting a Charmander plushie (all the way from Japan!) from Phuong last night was pretty much the highlight of this midsem break. Either I don't have very exciting breaks, or Charmander's just that awesome that he has the ability to change my psyche. For the sake of my pride, we'll go with the latter. Cheers Phuong!
(I'm still pretty excited about it).
In other news, I finished theHuanger Hunger Games trilogy last night. Took me about a week all up.
If you think that's an amazing feat, try it for yourself. Really not that hard, and I'm a fairly slow, albeit dedicated, reader. There's a lot of space in between sentences, the font's big, and there's a lot of action that frankly, doesn't make much sense even when I read it carefully, so I just skim over it.
If I were to plot the books on a chart, the resultant curve would be a negative linear line. For those that are not mathematically inclined (like me), that means that they got progressively worse.
The first one was good. I loved the first one.
The second one was like, wow, you just spent half the book touring the country, and the other half going through the Hunger Games again. Except this time, in less detail, because you've already done it once.
Third one was pretty excruciating. Katniss spends half the time either insane or wallowing in a very deep well of self-pity and pain. I actually derived very little enjoyment from reading it, because the whole thing is just too much death and destruction raining down on one poor soul. The ending is also pretty bad. She tries to tie it all off in one chapter, which, to me, seems too cursory and casual.
Looking forward to the next movie though. Should be better than the book anyhow.
Probably a good idea to go sleep now.

I can shuffle cards pretty well...
Irene's 21st on Friday night really compounded my hatred for this 'song':
I already had pre-conceived hatred towards it, mostly because it's stupid, inane, repetitive, ear-hurting, and stupid.
Friday night took it to a whole new level, because it was only then that I grasped the full import of the song's power.
It makes it mandatory for everyone to shuffle. Everyone. At the same time.
Of course, poor little me can't shuffle. Well, I can't do many things. Including dancing. Except maybe a moonwalk, and Usher twirling. And then, only in socks.
So yeah, I can't shuffle.
And, of couse, I just happen to be friends with super talented people like Zara, who, of course, can shuffle, and everything else, and whatnot. While I flail around like some kind of Official-Pokemon-League-cap-wearing fish on dry land. Ironically, kind of like a certain type of Pokemon.

Me: I flail at dancing. And many other things besides.
Yeah.
Good times though. Oddly enough, one of the better twenty-firsts that I've been to, despite the fact that I pretty much didn't know anybody that I talked to there apart from Zara (and sort of John Razos, who came dressed as a 90s auditor. Good old John Razos). It may have been the 90s-style costumes, it may have been the company (such that it was), or the ambience of the place. The hallowed complex where I also had my 21st, albeit in the inferior room. Or maybe it's because one high-quality companion is equivalent to many mediocre ones.
Also, Pikachu plushie is a good wingman. Or, at least, conversation starter.
"So, I heard you like the Pokemons?"
"Evidently."
"How good was [insert appropriate colour of choice] version? Ah, those were the days. Wait, I still play."
Alright, that'll do. Off to learn how to shuffle.

Conspiracy theory!
Pokemon. Read that aloud to yourself. Three times. Just do it.
Okay. What does that sound like to you? Apart from Poke Em On? That's right. Poker Mon, which by extension, sounds like Poker Money.
It's not only because of the casino place in the game that they say there are "gambling references" in the game (refer to the box that the game came in). There are many phonetic gambling references disguised through clever spelling and bright colours. Characters include 'Pokefan', 'Pokemaniac', and, most worryingly 'Pokenerd.' No coincidence that these sound like 'Pokerfan,'Poker Maniac' and 'Poker Nerd'. Then, of course, there's 'Gambler,' who always insists that he's going to win the next one. Thus, it can be deduced that Pokemon, as a game, is all about gambling.
Funny what a two-night slog of stats assignment does to a person.
Speaking of conspiracy theories: TUPAC IS ALIVE!!! (link)
Now, I know that it's (probably) not him, but still. It's pretty freaky. He even has the same piercing and facial hair. Or maybe he just does that because he knows that he has a resemblance to Pac.
