G-Star Shmee Star

I have no idea why I'm still awake at this time, but I am. I'm being kept awake by this weird unsettling feeling unease I get every now and again. I think it's to do with the fear of results this time around.

Anyway. I should be tired, due to lack of sleep, but I'm not. Well, not at the moment anyway. I was a few hours ago.

So I might as well talk about today while I'm here.

Today was the induction into the Leader's Program. We finally found out what we signed up for, and it doesn't seem half-bad. Kind of looking forward to it actually.

So yeah. I kind of got to know a friend that I didn't know so well before a little bit better, which is excellent. I love it when that happens.

Afterwards, Victor, Kanji and I went shopping at Chaddy. Looked at some overpriced G-Star stuff, bought some stuff, and stuff like that. Stuff.

Alright. I think that'll be it for now. Probably should go to bed. Maroon 5 tickets to buy and all tomorrow morning.

Tell him he's dreaming

I had one of the weirdest dreams last night. And the weird thing was, it seemed like a recurrence of one that I had the previous night, but I'm not sure if I did. Weird.

Okay. Here goes.

For some reason, two friends and I (I've forgotten which two now. I think it was Victor and Banh.) were inside a top-secret-compound thing. Yeah. Crazy. And we're in an armoured car type thing.

Somehow, we find out that people are coming to get us. We hear them coming, so I get somebody (I think it was Banh) to shoot him through the windscreen. He duly obliges, and we hightail out of there.

However, like all good action movies, they're still after us.

Solution? We somehow end up outside of the car, and start running. We run into Rui (not literally. He just happened to be there), who was going to a movie with a girl. We tag along and pretend to be innocent citizens (what was our crime? What were we doing there in the first place? Don't ask stupid questions). We snuck into the cinemas, and successfully avoided them.

Whoever 'them' might be.

Mission accomplished. Immense feeling of satisfaction.

I think the dream I had the previous night (or it might even have been the same night) involved Banh shooting the guy, but that was that. We just moseyed out of there.

I think I have a great idea for a new blog that I'm going to start in the summer. Stories based on my dreams. The major problem with that, however, is that I don't have, or technically remember, many dreams at all. Like, optimistically (or pessimistically, depending on who you are), you're looking at about a dream a month. But I would like to do something with stories. Any ideas?

Malaise

First day of uni after the 'mid-sem' break, and, even though it was slightly productive, I also feel like I've wasted a fair bit of time as well.

I've developed this theory. The theory is succinct, and goes something like this: having an Android phone slowly turns you into a jerk. In some cases, quicker than others. But it will happen eventually. The only person remaining who can prove me wrong is Victor. It hasn't happened. Yet. But it still could.

Anyway, I'm loving this weather. Yesterday was awesome. Today, not so awesome. I wore shorts to uni, but, as is typical, it rained when I was outside, but it was sunny when I was inside.

That's all for now, and possibly the next good while. Now, I'm going to go back to my lonely, lonely existence.

Sticks and stones

I got called so many things today.

One that stuck out was 'hyper-sensitive'.

I reckon that's just a cop-out for people who treat me like rubbish. Or a defence for people that treat me like rubbish. "Oh, you're just over-sensitive. They probably didn't mean it that way."

Even when I have irrefutable evidence that they did, in fact, mean it that way, I'm still hyper-sensitive, because I get mad about it.

Well, in case you haven't noticed, I don't enjoy lying down and taking everything that people throw at me. If I think I've been wronged, I act accordingly. Each to his own style. Some people are really apathetic, and don't care that they're being insulted, or slighted, or whatever. I'm not like that. Sorry, but that's the way I am. And I never see people complaining about it when I stick up for them.

I actually reckon I have a pretty high tolerance level of people. It's not like I go around looking for fights and arguments. I try and avoid them if I can. It's just a few key things rile me. I don't even know what they are. I just know when people act that way, it makes me mad. And they don't understand that.

One of these things is being labeled something I'm not.

Which is why I'm not mad now. Because it may be partially true. I may be hyper-sensitive by other people's standards. But the person that brought this up is the most apathetic person I know. No matter how many times he's insulted, or treated like vermin, he'll keep crawling back to the people that do that to him, and still try and belong on their group. So really, it's a subjective label that he's giving me.

Yeah, I know I'm kind of over-reacting now. But like I said, I don't like being falsely labeled. And although it may be partially true that I am hyper-sensitive, it may also be partially untrue.

I'll stop ranting now. Today was actually a very good day, apart from that episode. Skipping a lecture today was surprisingly liberating. It felt great. Guilty pleasure and all that. And an unexpected surprise during the time gained skipping that lecture. Even that episode of labellage wasn't too bad, it's just that I've had time to brood about it. Brooding is dangerous.

And just for a final piece of irony (the hammer on the back of my watch has 'Irony' emblazoned on it. No joke. How fitting.), not two days ago, I was labeled as being 'hard' and 'not seeming to be very sensitive'. Go figure.

Game on!

I'm going to start playing a little game this week. A lot of people seem to be playing this game with me, so I might as well start.

I'm not going to reply to any messages this week. Even if they say "Quick, reply in 15 minutes, or you won't get a slice of this 15 million dollar jackpot that I just won!"

I've just complained to Victor about his non-reply. Like, for crying out loud, if I care enough to ask you how your job interview went, the least you could do is tell me how it went. He completely misconstrued the issue. This is what he told me (or words to this effect): "No offence, but the world doesn't revolve around you." I love how he always tries to teach me things that I've known for the last 15 years.

Anyway, the point is that I find it weird how some people always have time for everybody else except me. I mean, it's fairly obvious that they've checked their Facebook, or phone, or whatever. They respond pretty damn quickly when you say that you're shouting them dinner on Friday night. It's just an issue of respect.

Victor's not the only one either. I know some of my friends have reasonable excuses. And they don't do this non-reply thing very often. But it's just seemed to come clumped at one time, with everyone doing it. And some of these people, I know for certain that they've just ignored me, for whatever reason. Yes, I do know. I don't think that I'm as stupid as most people seem to think I am. I'm also a psychic. Either way, I can see right through you.

A selection of songs that I have been listening to in unhealthy amounts

These songs have been stuck in my head at various times during the week, all for different reasons.

Stupid official clip won't let me embed it :(.

I swear he's 12.

Yeah. Just...yeah. First heard this in the pool hall with Victor actually. Again, can't embed official clip.

Dammit. Can't embed the official clip of this either.

Love this song. Amazing vocals.

Such a sweet, sweet love song. And short. Short and sweet. Relatively easy to play too.

And of course, this one. This one is like, permanently stuck in my head. Probably because I always find myself in the state that Usher finds himself in this song. Like, always. And, believe it or not, this clip is actually less gay than the official clip. No homo.

Thanks

And as if just to reinforce the point, Arsenal won against Hull this morning, capping off what turned out to be quite a swell week for me.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you may recall that I predicted that good week would follow after Arsenal beat Liverpool on the weekend. Read for more information.

By swell, I mean mostly good.

Annual Kris Kringle with A Rotational Roster of People on Thursday night went quite well, except for the timing issues. I have no idea why, on that day, people had to turn up late, leave early, and just generally not fit in with the plan. Must have been a bad day to pick. But apart from that, it all clicked together fairly well. Most things that I plan generally do, I think, except when people mess them up for me.

Anyway, I got a shirt to add to my growing collection (thanks Davy), and Yvonne seemed pleased with what I gave her. I hope. Unless I'm reading the signs wrong again, as I am wont to do. I think everyone else liked the 'things' that I made them, useless and non-functional though they may be, and Linda didn't kill me for defying her direct order not to make her anything, so I guess that worked out alright. All I know is that I've been completely turned off folding stars, at least for a while, and Sicilian salmon with potatoes at Airstream is also getting a bit old. Alas, must find new thrills.

Imesha and Linda bailed halfway through our dinner, so we moseyed on down to the cinema to watch Avatar.

Personally, I didn't like the 3Dness. Apart from the fact that you had to pay an extra dollar to watch 3D (unless you're Yvonne and have five pairs of spare 3D goggles at home), I thought that it actually made most of the movie look worse. I wasn't really feeling the 3D, and when I did, it just looked like one of those dodgy lenticular things you get out of chip packets. It looked less realistic than it would have on a normal screen. Everything just sort of looked stuck on. But it was a good movie. Not that Davy would know. I found out just then that he fell asleep during the film. He's making a habit of this. First New Moon with his girl, then Avatar.

On Friday, nothing much happened, except for Victor coming over and fiddling with my computers, and FIFA 10. Thanks Victor.

Saturday, would've liked to have gone to Kylie's, but no transport/didn't want to trouble other people in giving me a lift/ditched by Victor. Sorry Kylie.

Just then was the NQT Christmas dinner. It was cool. Found out that Catherine is a pretty cool person, and that I'm a pretty terrible person to sit next to at dinner, as I pretty much go quiet. Also, 'Same Girl' is a universally recognised benchmark of an awesome song.

Here's to having more fun-laden and awesome times ahead. It's a shame really, because I have all this free time, and no-one to spend it with. Guess I'll just practice my newly-acquired guitar (thanks for the Christmas present parents) and my grandpa clarinet. Perhaps working out more. But definitely no more folding of stars.

Lip sinking

What's the big deal about Britney Spears lip synching? Like, hello, she's been doing it ever since her first album. She's never been a very good singer, so what's new? It's almost like going to a Michael Jackson concert and making a big deal out of him dancing and singing live and not lip synching. I won't say who cares, because obviously people do, but I just think it's been completely blown out of proportion, and the reaction has been way, way, way above anything that I'd have expected. It's like the people that paid for the tickets expected her to not lip synch. When I put it like that, how weird does it sound?

Last night, I went to the first of many social events lined up for me these holidays. Banh had his 20th, and it was Friday the 13th. Nothing bad happened, unless you count Victor burning the food a bit. Good food and cool people all around. Sounds like a party I went to once. Oh, and good music, once I changed it to Ursher.

The food was very good. Vast improvement from when I first ate it. Not that it was bad in the first place. Which makes the improvement all the more surprising. Yes.

Yes. I'm suddenly feeling all pops, to use Yvonne terminology. Which is a very, very foreign feeling. Apart from that, things are starting to look on the up, except for being jobless. I shouldn't have said that. Every time I do, my world falls to pieces around me. But I can't help it.

Banh-becue

Yes, Banh had a barbecue on Tuesday.

Yes, I'm blogging about it now because my Internet was fdjsak;rnekvn capped.

So here I am. With uncapped Internet.

Anyway, the BBQ was good fun. It's great to relax after surviving 77% of a very difficult semester, and to catch up with friends who I haven't seen for ages upon ages.

The program was basically eating, mucking around with a ball, eating, drinking, and eating some more. Way better in real life than it sounds in words.

Oh, and acting like five-year-olds on the play equipment.

Then acting like 6-year-olds with the flying fox.

Then, for added entertainment, you get two soccer balls.

And you try to hit the moving target! The moving, human target!

The mud slippage was only funny because it didn't happen to me. Embarrassing for those that it happened to, because the wet mud on the back of one's jeans looked somewhat suss.

The park was also quite nice. Very nice actually. I've actually been there before. I didn't know until I saw Lily in that Koala bouncy thing. I remember how I used to love that thing. And you don't have to pay to use the barbecues, which I found amazingly generous.

Videos and photos will be uploaded soon i.e. when I can be stuffed.

A shout out to the people who made me laugh today, and probably most of the time as well

Davy and Imesha. I appreciate how you guys fabricate complete lies and fairytales for my benefit. Even though my cool, sarcastic, sardonic and cynical exterior doesn't show it, I appreciate it very much. I was laughing on the inside. And happy on the outside and inside.

James Cheng. Just because I saw him. And his sister. Because she's so random. Her name's Yvonne by the way.

Meng. He's just a funny guy.

Sam Ho. Fantasy Team Funnies. He was all like, "So, like, do they get points according to how many touches they get?" And I was like, "Bro, it's not AFL," and he's like "phully omg roflcopter, I thought that 200 and something score for Gerrard was the score per game, not the whole season."

Victor. With his "let's webcam each other during lectures" idea. Not only was it stupid because there was no sound, and it was during a lecture, he also forgot that it would consume our data limit like an...orange-eating monster eating a bucket of oranges.

If you're not here...well, there's always next time. You know what to do to get on here. Or you should be able to figure it out. If you can't, you don't deserve to make the cut.

Red Bull...with free can opening service!

Even though I got free Red Bull today, I still feel discriminated against.

While Banh and Victor got free can opening services, I got mine given to me unopened, and suffered the confusing question of: "Which type do you want?" I said "whatever" in place of "I thought there was only one type." Which seemed like the more appropriate thing to do at the time.

And no. I don't have wings. Disappointing, I know.

As Banh so aptly declared, "We can now call this a good day," or something of that ilk (I also "stole" that word off him). Correct me if I'm wrong, Banh.

And as days go, it wasn't bad. Highlight of the day was meeting David Phan in my MGMT tute. That was awesome, and relieved my oh-so-acute loneliness in this dastardly unit. Shame he goes to the other lecture, but I guess one can't have everything in life.

Back to pool. I got thumped by both Banh and Victor. I'll get there one day. When my dad sets up the pool table in the basement, I'll practice and become pool king. But I don't think it'll be happening within the next five years. But one can always hope. Worst comes to worst, I'll just be a very old pool king.

I am Harry Potter

Monash is like Hogwarts. You can go there for decades (or, in my case, a year), and still not know all of it's secrets (some would call these secrets "design flaws" - not that I'm cynical or anything).

Case example being: H10. The rooms at the bottom of the Menzies run from H1-H6 from right to left. All very logical. Then after that, things start going crazy. H7 could very well be next to H3. And so on and so forth.

And so it was, that it was just my luck, that my first class on the first day of uni, was in H10. Which was not, as you would expect, next to H9. Or even near H6. After bumping into some other Frenchies, Taij(?) and Trent-the-first-year, we wandered around for a good 15 mins, before I came up with a brilliant deduction/guess. "What if H10 is next to H1???" And so it was. Who knew that the numbers would come back around.

Apart from that, the day passed normally/boringly enough. There were a few surprises, like how the bookshop was already full of people at 10, and how Ben Niles defected from Canberra. But normalcy reigns supreme. Buses are still late, we still hang at the law library, people still don't like Victor, Banh will keep (we hope) making brownies, Meng will always be late even though he lives next to uni, JC will study hard, tutes will be awkward, and the rooms will still be stuffy.

I hope something comes along to mix things up. In a good way.

It better be good

The "big game" on Saturday - Victory vs Adelaide - better be worth getting to Box Hill at 7:30am, waiting for two hours, and getting minorly abused, and then forking out a huge 25 bucks for a ticket.

It also occurred to me afterwards that the actual match would take a shorter time than the total lining up for tickets time.

Went to Victor's house afterwards, completely killed him in FIFA, had lunch, and went home.

After dinner with "friends" (jokes...or is it) tomorrow night, and the "big game" on Saturday, I'll start my gearing up for uni.

Which leads me to a discussion about my timetable. It's generally alright, except for the French tute, which pretty much destroys the perfection that I had planned. I now have to go to uni on Friday, which I didn't plan on doing, and which I was mentally or emotionally prepared for. Now that I've accepted it, I figure it's not so bad, despite Victor's claim that "nobody goes to uni on Friday." I assume that all the science kids will be, and that's all that matters. Sort of.
