Word vomit

This is going to be a mini-collection of stuff that I've been meaning to post for a while, but for one reason or another, couldn't be bothered.

So I've been back from the Gold Coast for a couple of days. Good times, and all that. Not really all that much to talk about. Photos are all up on Facebook anyway, and you know what they say about pictures.

Yes. Every single one of those photos is the equivalent of me writing 1000 words. Therefore, no words here on that.

So rewinding a bit (just because I love jumping all around my chronological mental map), I went to the Noel Gallagher gig.

It was almost like a dream come true, really. I say almost, because the rest of Oasis were missing.

But anyway, it's not like 'Don't Look Back in Anger' needed the rest of Oasis anyway. And that was pretty awesome.

Leaping back into the present (wheee!), it looks like I may be going to Europe in mid-year. Which would be fantastic. Costly, but fantastic.

And we're at that time of year again. Uni starts in a couple of days. Holidays never seem long enough, despite the months on end we spend doing very little. Upon reflection, this was one of the best summers I've had, despite the two weeks from hell I had at the start of January. You know, the vac work, the supplementary exam, and writing up of a research proposal.

However, it's not all doom and gloom. I don't officially start uni until Wednesday. Oh yeah. Gloaty McGloatgloat right here.

Gold Coast Day One

As suggested by the title, the first day of our Gold Coast 'roadtrip' just concluded.

Good times have been had, with the promise of more to follow.

First impressions of this place are a bit mixed.

Architecturally (because that's everyone's primary concern), it's a little bit of a let down. Most of the buildings I've seen so far are a bit dilapidated. That might be a bit strong, but a lot of the buildings here have certainly seen better days.

Weather-wise, it's pretty humid, which was expected. However, became a bit milder towards the latter part of the day.

On to some not-so-first impressions!

The accommodation (Q1) is pretty swish. We're fortunate enough to be on the 47th floor, and our apartment comes with bonus awesome scenic views.

Anyway, activity-wise, most of the day was spent getting from my house to airport, airport to the other airport, other airport to Q1, finding lunch, spending a couple of hours running/sitting on the beach, chilling in the pool, eating dinner, and finishing off with a mad Monopoly Deal/apple cider/Sherlock/Tangled combo. If you thought that was going to be a short summary, you had another thing coming. Word.

That'll do for today. Maybe another one tomorrow if I can be stuffed.

The Nile is a river that runs through several countries, not just Egypt.

Late-night posting on Valentine's Day of the biggest song of denial I have ever heard, on the eve of my trip to the Gold Coast. Sometimes, my life doesn't seem to be as boring as I often think it is.

I don't think we're perfectly lonely. We just kid ourselves that we are.

Happy Valentine's Day.

Fruit Ninja Memories

It has just occurred to me that I neglected to mention a very important, and very enjoyable, part of my time so far at uni.

Roadtrips!

We had so much fun on them. So much so that we ended up discussing how awesome it would be if we could do them when we're 50, with various responsibilities and stuff. I hope we can.

You may ask why it randomly came to me just now.

Well, thanks for asking. It came to me because I was playing Fruit Ninja, jogging my memory of last summer's roadtrip, where four or five of us sat around playing Fruit Ninja at any one time. Oh, the things we do when we're young and foolish.

Also, it's remarkable how silly little things like that can take you back in time.

Mish-mashimuss maximus

Random thought just occurred.

You know your timetable for uni's good when you try to change classes around, but you find that there's really nothing that needs changing. Oh, and when you have two days off. And no early starts. Or late finishes. Ka-ching, and all that.

So yeah. What's new, I hear you ask.

Not much. Applying for jobs all over again, etc. Just came back from Rye, where I found out that I'd passed everything with (relative) flying colours. Relative to what I'd expected. That is, more than one fail.

Much of the good feeling from that, and the roadtrip, has since evaporated, leaving me with little else but this black, empty void of job applications and firewood moving.

Oh, and Hayley called me up for dinner with Meng and Ling. That was also good stuff.

Harry Potter was good too. Sort of. I'll talk about that another time maybe.

But yeah, it's all been pretty dreary. I've even run out of candles.

I think I'm just quite irritated at the fact that I've spent most of my holidays looking for something to do, and all of a sudden I'm running out of time to do things. Not things like, "Oh, let's go build a sandcastle on a beach in the rain because I'm that bored," actual things that need doing.

Back to Rye (metaphorically, anyway). Yeah, good stuff. As we reflected a while ago, it'd be one of the greatest things ever if we could all still be doing this when we're 30. Makes me kind of sad thinking about it, but there you go. Now you can think about it as well.

Oh, and maybe we'll pick somewhere else next time. Just to freshen things up a little.

Finally, I think I'm going to start a music blog soon*. It'll be a music blog with a bit of a twist though. Stay tuned if you like what you're reading here. Or even if you don't like what you're reading here, and just like music. Or even if you don't like music, or don't like what you're reading here (in which case, I would question why you're here at all. Maybe you just want something to read, but all your books mysteriously Disapparated).

Talking to the songbird yesterday

Obviously, that last post wasn't me.

Anyway, life.

Life has been fairly good of late.

Pretty much what's been happening has gone something like this.

We finished the Leaders Program, and had dinner at the Cranlana Mansion, which was pretty alright.

Not two days after that, I had my grand birthday bash thingo. According to a lot of people, it was a blast. Or, at least, pretty fun.

Personally, I thought the pinata was a fantastic idea. I had my doubts, but my friends have this ability to make anything fun.

Actually, I had my doubts about the whole thing in general, because I don't feel as though I'm a very entertaining person in general. But it turned out alright, mostly because my friends and family are awesome are making things awesome e.g. bringing Edward Cullen in as a birthday card. Gotta love it.

I'm yet to send out thank-yous and all that, but hopefully I'll get around to it soon.

Also, I felt like a bit of a beast afterwards, because I had about five shots, a champagne, and a beer, and I was not affected at all, whereas all my alcoholic friends were collapsing like proverbial houses of cards. Good times and all, but seriously, never drinking tequila ever again. Absolutely vile substance. I was mowing the lawn the other day, and I was just thinking to myself, "Man, something smells like tequila." It eventually came to my realisation that it was the petrol.

A few days after that, we went on a roadtrip to Rye. We being a bunch of friends.

A good roadtrip. In some ways, better than the last. The personnel was better (that's not to say that I dislike all the people that didn't come, it's just that some people that did come this time were quite awesome. Well, I have a distinct non-like of some people that came last time, but whatever). It was a bit too short though, but that's life. I also got to test out the spanking-new DSLR that my friends got me for my 21st, which was great. Also, I played guitar. People seemed to enjoy that a little bit, which was good. 'Songbird', by Oasis, I think, will become my party piece. Works out quite well.

Short, sweet, easy to play, and very, very tender. Well, at least, the way I sing it is. Liam, as always, kind of butchers it. It can also double up as my serenading piece.

sdrawkcaB

It's been a while. A long, long while. Almost a month, I believe.

This shall be another long one. I'll try and keep it short, but I don't think I can. Too much material to cover. It will also be in reverse order. Just because it's easier to do.

So yeah, as anticipated, I just failed Financial Accounting. On the upside, I did surprisingly well in everything else. So really, I did better than expected. Still doesn't ease the hurt though. I think it'll truly hurt when I tell my parents and see their disappointment all over again.

Prior to that, I was exulted to watch Spain beat The Netherlands. My two favourite teams (Netherlands, ex-favourite) duking it out for the cup. And Fabregas with the assist for the winning goal as well. Fairly average final, for a fairly average World Cup. Good stuff though. Only comes once every four years, enjoy it. Just hope they don't bring vuvuzelas next time. Seriously the most annoying things ever.

Prior to that, I went on a roadtrip to Torquay with eight other buds. Apparently I'm not supposed to talk about drunken exploits, so I'll just stick with the clean stuff.

Getting there was most definitely not half the fun. It was a nightmare. Ray was swearing at everybody, I was trying to make sure the car in front didn't get too far ahead, and the car behind didn't get too far behind. The car in front loved speeding, the car behind refused to go faster than 60 km/h. Life is hard in the middle.

Yeah, anyway. Good times mostly. Unhappy about some things, but nothing too sinister. Thoroughly enjoyed watching football not by myself for once.

And I think that's about it. I'm now going to cry in a corner. Good night.
