The worst thing ever

I might have said this before, but I'm pretty sure the worst thing ever is waking up from a really awesome dream.

That disappointment you feel when you wake up, and realise that the dream's not real. It's enough to make a man cry. Almost.

Masterdream

I had the strangest dream just then. Let's go through it.

So I was in Metung. For some reason, Banh turned up. He was waiting for his family to turn up. I was with my family. We were talking about fish or something. I think he was there to give me something, or something like that. He was going to leave, being all like "I can wait by myself if you want, I'll leave you guys along," being all mopey and suchlike.

So my dad, being the nice guy he is, says, "Nah, you can stay with us for a couple of hours." Naturally, Banh is delighted at this.

Fast forward a couple of hours.

We're on Masterchef. I don't know how that happened. Somehow, we got transported to Masterchef Metung.

I was stuck on a team with an Asian girl and some other dude that I can't remember now. I don't think I ever knew who they were. My other friends were there competing against me. James Cheng and Banh were definitely there.

So anyway, we kept losing, but none of the people there actually cooked anything at all. I just know that after every round (each round involved us sitting there for 10 seconds), the judges would give us ridiculously low scores. Like, 52% for me, and a few 40s for me other team mates. I knew that they were biased and out to get me. I mean, how is it even possible to get that low in cooking-but-not-actually? In the end, my whole team got put up for elimination. Then the girl in our team was punished with watching me and the other guy having to have a cook-off.

I was incensed. I had outscored both of them, but the girl got immunity (somehow I knew that that was immunity).

We went outside, and shook hands to say bye to everybody. Meng had suddenly appeared as a contestant, so I was shaking hands with him. Zara had just turned up as well, so we chatted for a bit. I think she wished me luck as well. I think she was the only one that knew I was up for the elimination challenge, such that it was. None of my friends who were actually there knew, but Zara did. Typical. I knew they didn't know, because they were all surprised when I told them, or my mystery friend behind me told them the reason for why I kept telling people I was nervous. "He's in the elimination challenge!!!" So, well done Zara.

I can't remember whether I kept saying I was nervous to just one person, or everyone. Whatever. Point is, I was nervous. "I don't know how to cook anything," I kept saying. Which, now that I think about it, is not true. But since when have dreams made sense? I just know that I kept thinking of what I was going to make for entree, and thinking that all I knew how to cook was tofu. Nice tofu, but tofu will only get you so far in Masterchef Metung.

It was at this point I woke up. I think it's because it just became way too unrealistic. I mean, me, not being able to cook? That probably created a hole in the space-time continuum of the dream. The other parts were zany, but that last part was just the proverbial straw the broke the proverbial camel's back.

Actually, it might just've been the alarm waking me up. I hate it when it does that. I was looking forward to the cook-off too, pitting my skills against an unknown foe, and ultimately overcoming biased judges. Maybe next time I'm in Metung.

Again, it made sense at the time

So, last night, I had a weird dream.

I jetted off to Russia, for some arbitrary reason. I ended up being in one building for the whole trip, answering music trivia questions. The questions were in English. In fact, so was everything else. The only thing that indicated that it was Russia was that I could see snow outside, which doesn't happen very often in good old Melbourne.

So yeah, I arrived in the morning (having left Melbourne that same morning). After spending the aforementioned few hours there, I left that evening and arrived in the afternoon of the same day (told you it was weird).

At Melbourne Central.

There, I saw Dr Dre. And I was all like, "OMG, it's Dr Dre!!!"

And then James Cheng appeared. And so did Andrew Chen, who was working at the cafe, the wall of which Dre was leaning on.

There is no underlying meaning to this dream. Or, at least, that's what I tell myself. It just seems to be an amalgamation of a few, seemingly fleeting, irrelevant, trivial thoughts that I don't even remember thinking. All in all, a pretty good dream to have. A good way to keep me occupied during my sleep.

A thousand dreams of Abdul

I had a dream last night. Or, at least, I think it was a dream. It seemed very realistic.

Anyway, this guy left a comment on my blog. His name was Abdul (I know, right?). His comment was relevant to the post for the first sentence, then the second sentence was a link to some dodgy website.

Bizarre.

I blame the exam stress.

Because last night, I was truly stressed. I kind of de-stressed a little bit after today, but it's starting to build up again in preparation for Friday. It's a vicious cycle. The more I stress, the less I study, increasing my stress even more.

One more to go. Focus, I tell myself. Focus.

I'll leave you with this wonderful song. One of like, three Chinese songs that I like. And it's not even in Chinese.

Tell him he's dreaming

I had one of the weirdest dreams last night. And the weird thing was, it seemed like a recurrence of one that I had the previous night, but I'm not sure if I did. Weird.

Okay. Here goes.

For some reason, two friends and I (I've forgotten which two now. I think it was Victor and Banh.) were inside a top-secret-compound thing. Yeah. Crazy. And we're in an armoured car type thing.

Somehow, we find out that people are coming to get us. We hear them coming, so I get somebody (I think it was Banh) to shoot him through the windscreen. He duly obliges, and we hightail out of there.

However, like all good action movies, they're still after us.

Solution? We somehow end up outside of the car, and start running. We run into Rui (not literally. He just happened to be there), who was going to a movie with a girl. We tag along and pretend to be innocent citizens (what was our crime? What were we doing there in the first place? Don't ask stupid questions). We snuck into the cinemas, and successfully avoided them.

Whoever 'them' might be.

Mission accomplished. Immense feeling of satisfaction.

I think the dream I had the previous night (or it might even have been the same night) involved Banh shooting the guy, but that was that. We just moseyed out of there.

I think I have a great idea for a new blog that I'm going to start in the summer. Stories based on my dreams. The major problem with that, however, is that I don't have, or technically remember, many dreams at all. Like, optimistically (or pessimistically, depending on who you are), you're looking at about a dream a month. But I would like to do something with stories. Any ideas?

But things just get so crazy, living life gets hard to do, I would gladly hit the road, get up if I knew, that someday it would lead me back to you

Yeah, it's been a bit of a tough week. Not just academically, but just life in general. I'm drained. And I've gotten semi-sick twice. I can't even be bothered recounting it all. And to cap it all off, I had an amazingly vivid, scary and intense dream. As a consequence, I'm going to start up a dream diary blog tomorrow. Or sometime in the near future.

Nightmares (not that I remember them very often, or even dreams for that matter), for some reason, leave me really drained. My theory is that my body tenses throughout the whole things, tiring my muscles. So I'm really tired. So instead of writing something proper, I'm going to be slack, and let rip a video that perfectly encapsulates what a perfect Sunday sounds like to me. Definitely in my top 5 list of songs. I don't think I've ever met anyone that didn't like this song. If ever I have to do impromptu singing (trust me, it's happened before), this song, and Edelweiss, would be my picks.

May it bring you joy also. Happy Sunday.

Word of the Day: Nightmare

Thursday, 4 February 2010

I used to read Word Up magazine

The following is a rough amalgamation/approximation of the beautiful dreams that I've been having over the last week or so.

We're sitting there, on the beach, by the sea. Or on a bench, in a park. Or on a verdant field of grass on top of a lush green mountain. It doesn't really matter where. It changes every night anyway. It doesn't matter where we are because you're here. And while you're here, sometimes we talk. Sometimes we just sit in comfortable silence, just being happy in the presence of each other. Well, I'm happy. And I'm fairly sure that you are too.

If you didn't get that, that was about a specific person, not you. Or maybe it is you. But just to make it clear, the 'you' in this dream is one specific person, and is almost certainly not you. Unless you are the person in my dreams. Or of my dreams as the case may be.

Blah, blah, blah.

Sometimes I hate having dreams, even though I don't have them very often. If their nightmares, they're just stupid and scary. If they're awesomely good, like the above, it makes you depressed. Seriously. I wake up, lay there for five minutes remembering what happened in the dream. After I remember, I actually feel like crying. No joke. Like, I want to cry right now just thinking about it.

I think it's fairly evident that I hope this dream bears fruit. Fingers crossed.

Apparently dreams are manifestations with your preoccupations, or, in this case, things that are on your mind constantly during the day. Or maybe that's a theory that I made up myself. But, like in most cases, this theory seems to apply here. Go me.

When You're Dreaming With a Broken Heart

Days like this make me wish that I had some to spend them with.

What a glorious day it looks like it promises. A cloud or two in the sky, doesn't look like it's going to get too hot. And it's mid-December. Such a shame.

I've been let down a bit by a few girls. They lead you on, then...BAM! they cut you off. Not really heartbroken, just heavily disappointed.

I try to be pessimistic about these things. I tell myself that I'm ready to be disappointed again, and that it's happened before. Albeit not when I'm getting such a strong vibe. But regardless, I still try to tell myself that I'm reader to be cast adrift again.

But I think at heart I'm an optimist. I always believe that it will work out, and that the other person feels the same way, and all that jazz.

I really hope history isn't repeating itself, even though I try to tell myself that, based on past events, the chances of it repeating are quite high. But you know, sometimes past history isn't a good indicator of what can happen in the future. Just look at the stockmarket. Just like stockbrokers, I do sometimes read the signs wrong. In fact, I believe that I read the signs wrong most of the time. But unlike on the stock market, maybe being right 5 per cent of the time in these things is enough.

Wishful thinking episode 1, 076, 980

It was a glorious day. The sun, glittering through the leaves still wet with morning dew, made the air warm, but not scorching or humid. A slight cool breeze was slightly perfumed with the smell of newly-bloomed flowers, with a hint of the earthy smell of trees. The birds sang sweetly, and the bees were buzzing busily about their business. In other words, a day perfect for sitting under the sun on a patch of grass and reading, or listening to music, or just sitting and chilling. Perhaps with a drink in hand.

As you may or may not have guessed, the day described is today. And the day before. And the day before that.

It's a shame really, but one can't really study for exams in the garden. If only we didn't have exams.

And who needs them anyway? Useless things that they are. Alternatively, instead of moaning and complaining, I could construct a table outside and study there. Yes. Because I'm really good at constructing tables. Of the outside variety. In one day. Good idea again Andrew.

Arsenal signs Isaac Ho for an undisclosed fee

Ha. That got your attention didn't it? Wish it would come true though. He'd be a lot better than all of those so-called holding midfielders combined. If it does happen, you heard it here first.

My point was that I think it's time for a boring football talk post. So let's talk football.

We'll start with Arsenal. I hope they sign people. Namely a holding midfielder. And a central defender. And hopefully a decent striker as well. And possibly a full-back. And another striker, just in case they all get injured, which they have a knack of doing. Also to replace Bendtner when he decides to act as a defender for the opposition.

I'm pretty glad they got rid of Adebayor. He was way, way, way too full of himself. Very, very good sell. Toure, not so good, but what can you do? Money talks.

Barca and Inter. That was the deal of the century for Inter. They get Eto'o, Hleb on loan and 40-something million Euros, for Zlatan Ibrahimovic. I am of the opinion that I wouldn't have paid more than 40-something million Euros for Zlatan, let alone trade one awesome player and a good bench-warmer on top of that. I'm sure Guardiola knows what he's doing. He did win the treble after all. That's gotta count for something.

Ridiculous Real. I was just thinking today, why don't they just create another team instead of trying to offload all these players? Just create a Real Madrid Rejects team, shunt all those unwanted players there, and they can dominate the lower leagues, and sell more shirts at the same time. Good business plan yeah? Bet you they steal it off me. Watch them create a new team next week.

I've decided that if I get uber-rich one day, I'll buy half shares in Arsenal and buy whatever team Roy Keane is coaching at that time. Also, flying pigs will be a common occurrence by that time.
